Custom challenge coin FAQ
Minuteman Precision Engravings makes custom brass challenge coins in 30 mm and 50 mm, single- or double-sided, with 2.5D sculpted relief and an antique finish. You can order a single coin or a full unit order, every order includes a digital draft to approve before engraving, and coins ship anywhere in the U.S. Answers to the most common questions are below.
What sizes do your challenge coins come in?
Two sizes, both brass. 30 mm (about 1.2 inches) is a bit bigger than a U.S. quarter (24.3 mm). 50 mm (about 2 inches) is just under the width of a standard credit card (54 mm on the short side). 30 mm coins are 3.2 mm (1/8 in) thick; 50 mm coins are 4 mm thick.
What are the coins made of?
Brass, with an antique finish: the recesses are blackened and the high points polished, so the relief stands out. Every coin we make has this finish.
What does “2.5D” mean?
2.5D means raised, sculpted relief you can feel. It sits between flat engraving and a full 3D sculpture: a recessed, textured background, stepped layers, and sculpted high points inside a raised rim.
How much do custom challenge coins cost?
Prices are per coin and depend on the size and how many you order. The more you order, the less each coin costs. see the full price list in Pricing. Design work (if you need it), rush orders and shipping are quoted per project.
Can I order just one coin?
Yes. Upload a photo, logo or design with your quote request and we’ll turn it into a single custom coin. Small batches, unit orders and re-orders are welcome too.
Is there a design fee?
If your artwork is ready to engrave, there is no design fee. If it needs design work, like turning a photo or sketch into a coin design, a design fee is added and included in your quote, so you see the full price up front.
Do I need finished artwork?
No. A logo, a sketch or a phone photo is enough to start. We’ll refine it in your digital draft.
What is a digital draft?
A digital draft is a preview image of your coin design that we send before anything is engraved. You can ask for changes until it’s right. It’s included with every order.
Can both sides be engraved?
Yes. Double-sided is our standard, and the quote form lets you add text and artwork for the front and the back. Single-sided coins are available too and cost less. Both are listed in Pricing.
How long does an order take?
It depends on quantity and design, and we’ll give you a date with your quote. Have a deadline? Add it to the form and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can meet it.
Do you ship nationwide?
Yes. We’re based in Boston, MA and ship anywhere in the U.S. Shipping is quoted with your order.
How do I pay?
Requesting a quote is free. We’ll send your digital draft and final price to approve before we engrave, and confirm payment details with your quote.
